Rosa Portogallo (Portuguese Pink Marble)

This Portuguese marble, ranging in colour through white, cream, pink and salmon, is very versatile.

The variety of colour is expressed also in its different names such as Rosa Aurora, Crema Portogallo or Estremoz (named for the quarrying region).

Workability

Due to the variety of veins or simply variety of colours, Rosa Portogallo offers wide possibilities for sculpture. However,working of this stone can be made difficult by the sometimes high content of large crystals and the abrasive grey or green veins.

For sculpture therefore, the best of the Portuguese marbles are lighter coloured with fewer veins.
